Jefferson commissioner improving, walking with help just two days after plunge down cliff

SEATTLE — Jefferson County Commissioner David Sullivan was up and moving around with the aid of a walker Tuesday, two days after he fell 40 feet down a bluff near his Cape George home.

Still listed in satisfactory condition at Harborview Medical Center, his wife, Connie Ross, said he planned to return to work Monday at Jefferson County Courthouse.

“He actually walked today,”‘ Ross said Tuesday afternoon.

“We thought he was going to be in a wheelchair for at least three weeks, but instead he’ll use a walker to get around. He’s really not good with crutches.”

Ross said the 53-year-old, first-term commissioner was in pain and feeling constrained by the new neck and back braces he will have to wear for three months.

The neck brace is “very confining,” she said.

“He can’t torque his neck, but the neck break is the lethal one. But it is a hairline crack.”
