QUILCENE — Jefferson County prosecuting attorneys are expected to file charges today against a local retiree who intervened in a domestic situation and allegedly shot another man to death.
Gary L. Middleton, 62, of 70 Fremont Ave., is expected to be charged in Jefferson County Superior Court in the shooting death of Douglas “Tony” Knight, 45, of Quilcene.
Middleton is being held in the Jefferson County jail in Port Hadlock on $50,000 bail.
An autopsy completed Tuesday morning confirmed Knight died of a single gunshot wound to the head.
Prosecuting Attorney Juelie Dalzell said Knight was shot to death late Sunday outside the Maple Grove Motel on Maple Grove Road. He died in the motel parking lot.
Officials did not say what they will be charging Middleton with.
