Japanese students visit Port Angeles for 24th year

PORT ANGELES — Students from Tanabu High School in Mutsu, Japan, recently visited Port Angeles, marking the 24th year of partnership with Port Angeles High School.

The 39 students and three teachers were hosted by families of PAHS students. During their October visit, the Japanese students were able to attend PAHS’ homecoming activities and classes at PAHS, visit with pen pals at Jefferson Elementary School and tour Port Angeles, Olympic National Park and Victoria.

According to a press release, this will be the final year of the partnership between the two schools as Tanabu’s intensive English program is ending this year.

The school district’s Junior Ambassador program for middle school students will still continue.

A visit by 10 Japanese middle school students, two teachers, a school board member and the mayor of Mutsu is planned for later this school year.
