INDIAN ISLAND — Establishment of a peace memorial at the gates of the North Olympic Peninsula’s only Navy base is winning some support.
On Wednesday, the county Parks and Recreation Advisory Board unanimously decided to support the plan for Naval Magazine Indian Island — with some conditions.
Board members emphasized that the project organizer, Raven, and his non-profit organization, All My Relations, should make the memorial appeal to a broad perspective of people, not just people against war.
Raven said the memorial will be made to be as sensitive to differing viewpoints as possible.
There is a lot of other ways to achieve peace than to stop a war, he noted.
