PORT ANGELES — Volunteers are needed to help remove litter from Indian Creek from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
For details and the meeting location, volunteers should RSVP by calling or texting 360-704-0861, emailing mckenzi.taylor@elwha.org or visiting www.clallamcd.org/2021-indian-creek-cleanup.
Participants will be removing litter from the outlet of Lake Sutherland and should bring waders, hip boots or rain boots; a small backpack for personal items; lunch; and a waterproof bag or case for cellphones or key fobs.
Prizes will be awarded for the largest and the most unique trash items collected.
Litter moving from the lake displaces fish habitat as it flows through Indian Creek, down the Elwha River and into the strait, a press release stated.
The cleanup project is hosted by the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, Clallam County, the Clallam County Conservation District and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
