PORT ANGELES — Icy roads were blamed for two non-injury wrecks that occurred Friday night and early Saturday morning.

Clallam Fire District No. 2 responded to both incidents.

At 8:14 p.m. Friday, responders found a Ford Explorer that had landed on the east bank of Ennis Creek with its rear bumper in the water about 100 feet east of a bridge, said Assistant Chief Dan Huff in an email.

Driver Josh Almaden, 27, of Port Angeles had lost control while traveling westbound on Ennis Creek Road, Huff said.

Two other adults and three children under 5 were also in the car, he said.

Medics removed the children to their ambulance for evaluation in a warm environment. They found no injuries.

At 2:11 a.m. Saturday, firefighters and medics assisted after a 2001 Dodge pickup flipped onto its top along Kacee Way near Lower Elwha Road west of Port Angeles, Fire Chief Sam Phillips said.

The person in the truck told responders he had been a passenger and that the driver had fled the scene. The man declined medical attention.

“The roadways were very frosty with patches of black ice,” Phillips said in a news release.

Both wrecks were turned over to the Clallam County Sheriff’s Office.
