Routine maintenance inspections of the east-half drawspan will require closing the Hood Canal Bridge to vehicle traffic intermittently on Thursday, the state Department of Transportation said.
During traffic closures of up to 30 minutes, engineers will inspect the condition of the guide wheels that are part of the east half drawspan.
The closures will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., a Transportation spokesman said.
The east half, installed in 1961, is scheduled to be replaced during the latter half of the decade. The replacement project is currently on hold following the shutdown of the Port Angeles graving yard in which pontoons and other components were to be constructed.
