SHINE — North Olympic Peninsula drivers are reminded that the state Department of Transportation has scheduled overnight closures of the Hood Canal Bridge this week.
The full closures will take place Wednesday and Thursday. A previously scheduled closure Tuesday night has been canceled due to inclement weather.
Here is the schedule:
• 11 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday.
• 11 p.m. Thursday to 4 a.m. Friday.
All work on the bridge is weather-dependent and could be rescheduled.
Due to the nature of the work, the bridge will not open for any traffic, including emergency response.
This is DOT’s third attempt to close for five hours at a time to allow crews to continue work on a project that replaces and bolsters bridge equipment. Similar overnight closures were canceled Dec. 21-22 and Jan. 4-6 because of adverse weather conditions, the agency said.
To discover if the closures have been canceled in real time, it is necessary to dial 5-1-1, see www.wsdot.com/traffic or download the WSDOT mobile app. Information for doing so is at www.wsdot.wa.gov/travel/travel-information-phone.
Email alerts also are available.
The agency once sent text messages upon request about Hood Canal Bridge closures and openings, but a notice on the website says those have been disabled due to cost.
