PORT ANGELES — Coastal hazard specialist Ian Miller will talk about the shoreline changes associated with the Elwha Dam removal at the Clallam County Historical Society’s History Tales presentation at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
The free lecture will be at First United Methodist Church, 110 E. Seventh St., Port Angeles. The program will be held in the social hall. Parking and entry are on Laurel Street.
Miller will talk about the changes to the shoreline and a bit on the changes to the coastal ecosystem since the dams were removed.
He will pull in historic information that was used to assess what conditions might have been like before dam emplacement.
Miller is Washington Sea Grant’s coastal hazards specialist, working out of Peninsula College in Port Angeles and the University of Washington’s Olympic Natural Resources Center in Forks.
He works with coastal communities and public agencies on the Olympic Peninsula to strengthen their ability to plan for and manage coastal hazards such as tsunamis, erosion and flooding.
Miller was the education director of the Olympic Park Institute and Washington field coordinator for the nonprofit Surfrider Foundation.
