History, law, hope discussed at Studium Generale

PORT ANGELES — Phyllis Bernard, professor emerita of law, will present “Is It Really As Bad As It Seems? Finding Courage and Hope in American History and Law” at 12:35 p.m. Thursday.

The free lecture, part of the Studium Generale series, will be in Peninsula College’s Little Theater, 1502 Laurisden Blvd.

Bernard believes that in 2018 it is vital that all pay attention to how residents choose to define the country and their own lives within this historical context, according to a press release.

The presentation, Bernard will offer a perspective on what she calls in the press release “the rhythm and rhyme of America’s past and present” and a basis for finding common ground to build America’s future.

Her presentation will include some graphic images and discussion of violence in many forms.

In the release, Bernard said that “these are included because, as African wisdom says: we cannot heal the wound if we cannot touch it.”
