Highway 20 wreck caused by icy road south of Port Townsend sends woman to hospital

PORT TOWNSEND — A Port Townsend woman was injured early Monday morning after icy conditions led to a rollover wreck.

At about 5:26 a.m., Marilyn M. Richards, 44, was driving a red 1997 Chevrolet Blazer westbound on state Highway 20 near Eaglemount Road, about 7.5 miles south of Port Townsend, according to a State Patrol report.

The report said road conditions at that location were icy.

The Blazer slid going around a curve, and Richards over-corrected and lost control, according to the report.

The vehicle went into the eastbound ditch, rolled onto its side and came to rest blocking the eastbound lane.

Richards was transported to Jefferson Healthcare emergency room, where she was treated and released in good condition, a Jefferson Healthcare supervisor said Monday afternoon.

There were no passengers in Richards’ vehicle.

The State Patrol report said the cause of the wreck was speed too fast for conditions, for which Richards was cited.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected to be involved in the wreck.
