Olympic National Park, considered one of the crown jewels of the national park service, is 65 years old today, but the milestone will pass almost unnoticed.
Park staffers say an official celebration is not planned, but park employees will quietly remember the anniversary.
Two former rangers and a packer who worked in the park when it began reminisced Friday about the early days of Olympic National Park.
Sitting around a picnic table behind the Olympic National Park Visitor Center, 3002 Mount Angeles Road in Port Angeles, the men talked about the first days of the park and former employees, looked at old photographs and newspaper clippings and compared the park then and now.
