FORKS — The Forks branch of Habitat for Humanity is looking for a family that qualifies to buy a no-interest home — the first new house planned for Forks by the nonprofit agency dedicated to building affordable housing.
On March 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 250 N. Blackberry Ave., the Forks branch of Dungeness Valley Habitat for Humanity will hold a public orientation and application session for families who are interested in applying.
“Our goal is to build one home in Forks this year and see how the building process goes,” said Shele Kinkead, a board member for the Dungeness Valley Habitat for Humanity.
“This is a big community project.”
The Forks branch held its first organizational meeting last month, and already has a 1.7-acre property to work with, Kinkead said.
That lot, located at the corner of Fir and A streets, will eventually feature between eight and nine new homes, all of which will be built with volunteer labor and capital.
The first home will be built sometime this summer.
