PORT ANGELES — Gov. Christine Gregoire will spend the day in Clallam County on Friday, her first trip to the North Olympic Peninsula since taking office.
The Democrat from Olympia is continuing her outreach across the state, said spokeswoman Kate Lykins Brown, and will be focusing on issues related to the environment and economy, education and rural health care.
“The community is of great interest to her,” Brown said.
Gregoire will be accompanied by state Rep. Lynn Kessler, D-Hoquiam, Brown said.
Clallam County Commissioner Mike Doherty, D-Port Angeles, said most of the visits on Gregoire’s itinerary are “fairly substantive” and residents are eager to get the governor’s ear.
“We think we have some good things going on in our rural county and we might as well talk to her about it,” he said.
Here is a list of the stops on Gregoire’s itinerary:
Port Angeles
* 8:40 a.m.: Tour of the new Port Angeles Hardwoods LLC mill under construction.
* 9:20 a.m.: Tour of Clallam Business Incubator and North Olympic Skills Center building; briefing on Peninsula College construction projects.
* 10:30 a.m.: Briefing by Clallam County Sheriff Joe Martin on Olympic Peninsula Safety Communications Alliance Network in the Clallam County Courthouse commissioners’ meeting room.
* 10:50 a.m.: Briefing by Port of Port Angeles Commissioner John Calhoun and Bioenergy Task Force members on the West End shake mill wood waste problem, Clallam County Courthouse commissioners’ meeting room.
* 11:20 a.m.: Media availability at the Clallam County Courthouse.
* Noon: Lunch at Port Angeles Senior Center.
* 1 p.m.: Ribbon cutting at the new health clinic and community update on a county health planning grant at 909 Georgiana St.
* 2:05 p.m.: Highway 101 safety tour immediately east of McDonald Creek Bridge, south side.
Sequim
* 2:40 p.m.: Tour of the Dungeness Valley Health and Wellness Clinic, 925 N. Sequim Ave.
* 3:20 p.m.: Tour Jimmycomelately Creek restoration project in Blyn estuary.
The public is invited to the Port Angeles clinic ribbon-cutting, the senior center lunch and the creek restoration project tour.
