The Coast Guard Marine Safety Office on Monday removed 45 gallons of diesel fuel from a 41-foot sailboat that ran aground Sunday in Discovery Bay.
The owner of the double-masted Bad Stew Too was identified as Allen Hunter of Tacoma, said Boatswain’s Mate 1st Class Bill Gittins with Coast Guard Group Port Angeles.
Gittins said it would be up to the owner to salvage the boat, which ran aground near low tide Sunday afternoon and keeled over to one side. When the tide rushed in, the vessel was flooded.
A helicopter crew with Group Port Angeles dropped water pumps to the vessel. The Coast Guard auxiliary out of Port Hadlock also assisted.
The boat’s owner and three crew members were taken off the vessel by a passing boater.
