PORT ANGELES — Frustrated parents, community members and district officials debated budget cutback proposals Tuesday that include two school closures.
The session was the first of three to focus on ways to erase a forecast $1 million deficit.
The Port Angeles School District must trim that amount from its current $34.4 million budget for fiscal 2002-2003.
More than 150 people attended the two-hour meeting at the senior citizens center.
They sat on the floor, stood in the halls and leaned against walls to listen and ask questions of their district leaders.
At times, discussion was heated with parents challenging previous decisions or firing questions at district representatives.

A third meeting is scheduled for Feb. 26 at the Senior and Community Services Center, 328 E. Seventh St.
Both meetings will begin at 7 p.m.
