The Enhancement Days Festival at Fort Worden State Park will complete the year-long centennial celebration over the next two weekends.
Free performances, wildlife cruises, scenic volkswalking courses, visual art happenings and a found object quiz are among the festivities of Fort Worden 2002 Centennial’s third festival, Oct. 11-20. Co-hosted by the Friends of Fort Worden and Washington State Parks, the event celebrates the preservation of Fort Worden State Park as a national historic landmark and its evolution into an international model of recreation-arts-education collaboration.
A commemorative quilt and postmark will be on display today, Oct. 11. Cabin Fever Quilters have made a wall hanging depicting important historical elements of the fort as well as contemporary scenes. The quilt will be on display beginning at 10 a.m. in the cell of the Guardhouse Visitor Center and Gift Shop.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Port Townsend Postmaster Jim Espensen will operate the Centennial Postal Station at the Guardhouse. A commemorative cancellation postmark will be applied to any item bearing first-class postage. The postmark features the park’s marine life and is the third of four original Centennial cancellation stamps provided by the United States Postal Service.
