FORKS — The Quillayute Valley School Board heard an earful Tuesday night from Forks High School staff members, parents, students and community members who called on them to fire embattled principal Steve Quick.
During a two-hour public comment session that saw tempers sometimes flare up, high school senior Murphy Dickson presented the School Board with a petition signed by 150 students representing a vote of no-confidence in the school’s administration.
The school is led by Quick and vice principal Chris Wiseman.
In addition, 11-year high school cheerleading coach Kathy Johnson read a long letter citing why she had finally “had enough” of trying to establish good avenues of communication with Quick.
She cited a recent meeting with the principal in which he allegedly responded, “I don’t have to show you anything,” after he was asked to clarify a recent decision of his regarding on-campus parking privileges for certain students.
“I am sorry that I have had to resort to this kind of public communication, but I feel that I have no other options,” said Johnson, whose supervisor recently voted not to renew her contract next year.
“I am being targeted,” she said, explaining that she feels like she’s being retaliated against for speaking up at previous School Board meetings.
At the end of her talk, Johnson echoed what a longtime math teacher recently asked the School Board to do: “Send [Quick] down the road.”
Quick, who was present, did not have an opportunity to respond to the allegations during the meeting.
