HOQUIAM — A Forks driver has been cited after a collision 44 miles north of Hoquiam sent a Rogue River, Ore., resident to a hospital.
Robert S. Shale, 19, of Forks was cited for failure to yield the right of way after the 9:37 a.m. Wednesday crash on U.S. Highway 101, the State Patrol said.
Kerry D. Carpenter, 51, of Oregon was treated and discharged from Grays Harbor Community Hospital in Aberdeen, a hospital spokesperson said.
A passenger in Shale’s car, Kimberly M. Shale, 12, was not hurt, according to troopers.
The State Patrol said Shale was traveling southbound near Milepost 133 in a red 2002 Honda when he pulled into northbound traffic and collided with Carpenter’s white 2012 Dodge Ram pickup truck.
Shale’s car came to rest blocking both lanes of the highway. Carpenter’s ended up in the northbound ditch by the side of the road.
The highway was partially blocked for 3½ hours, the State Patrol said.
