At a minimum, the Port Angeles School District is out $5,000 to recover from the vandalism done at Port Angeles High School Saturday morning.
That is the cost of the deductible on the school’s insurance policy.
“Of course, we have insurance for this sort of thing,” said Mark Jacobson, executive director of business and operations for the school district.
Jacobson said the district and its insurers are still reviewing damage.
“I can’t tell how much damage we have yet,” Jacobson said.
“It could be a month before we have a solid number.”
The district is self-insured through the Washington School Risk Management Pool.
The district plans to paint the main hallway in the 100 Building to mitigate the smoke odor from about 10 different bulletin boards that were scorched.
Scott Brodhun, director of facilities, maintenance and technology said on Monday that some repairs may wait a few weeks.
“We will try and get in and do some of the more intrusive work during spring break while the kids are not there.”
Spring break is April 2 through April 6.
