Fire damages boiler room at PenPly

PORT ANGELES — A fire heavily damaged the boiler room at Peninsula Plywood this morning.

The cause of the fire at the mill, located on Marine Drive, is unknown. No employees were inside at the time, the Port Angeles Fire Department said.

Fire fighters extinguished most of the fire within 30 minutes. The street, which was closed to traffic briefly, was unblocked by about 7:30 a.m.

There is no word on how the fire will affect operations of the mill.
