PORT ANGELES – Six finalists for the next chief of the Port Angeles Police Department were named on Tuesday.
The list includes the interim chief, Terry Gallagher, who is the only candidate from the state of Washington.
Gallagher, who was deputy chief of the department, became interim chief after Tom Riepe retired on May 1.
City Manager Mark Madsen will host an opportunity for the public to meet the candidates in the Vern Burton Community Center at 308 E. Fourth St., the day before the interviews at 6 p.m. Aug. 23.
The candidates will be interviewed by the city’s selection committee the following day.
Through a nationwide search, a pool of 19 candidates was selected from 36 applicants before the field was narrowed to six, said Teresa Pierce, city spokeswoman.
The other candidates are:
