PORT ANGELES — The downtown Port Angeles Farmers Market’s disputed conditional use permit will come before the Planning Commission again on Nov. 9.
The Saturday market will continue operating under the permit approved in 2004 until the issue is resolved, said City Attorney Bill Bloor on Tuesday.
That permit allows the downtown Farmers Market to operate from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays in downtown Port Angeles on one block of Laurel Street between First and Front streets.
City Planner Sue Roberds said the Nov. 9 meeting will be a new public hearing, in contrast to the Oct. 7 closed record appeal hearing before the City Council.
The issues are well-known and speaker time limits will be instituted, which should prevent a repeat of the marathon seven-hour public hearing held before the Planning Commission on Aug. 10, she said.
In the early morning hours of Aug. 11, the Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit and its stipulations by a 4-3 vote.
The permit allows the market to operate Saturdays on a downtown block of Laurel Street closed to traffic for another year, except during the holiday shopping months of November and December.
The permit was appealed by Farmers Market representatives and downtown business owners.
