Families invited to drop in for early childhood math learning while playing with blocks

BlockFest will be offered on a drop-in basis starting today.

PORT ANGELES — BlockFest will be offered on a drop-in basis today through Saturday at the Elwha Heritage Center.

The center is at 401 E. First St.

Hours for the event, which teaches young children math and science through playing with blocks, are from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. today, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Families with children from 8 months to 8 years old are invited to drop in at any time during the event.

The goal is that each family will hear a talk on early math learning about every hour and spend at least 10 minutes at each of the five block stations.

The event is sponsored by the Elwha Klallam Heritage Center, Parenting Matters Foundation and First Teacher Program, a United Way partner agency.

First Teacher is brought to Clallam County through a grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation as a way for children to get a head start in math and science.

For more information, phone the Parenting Matters Foundation at 360-681-2250 or email nicole@first teacher.org.
