Church on the Pier services

PORT ANGELES — Calvary Chapel will hold “Church on the Pier” at City Pier downtown at

11 a.m. Sundays, July 5 and Aug. 9.

All are invited to join the worship service with the message “Which Direction.”

Kids will be able to participate in age-appropriate teachings and activities during the service.

Free refreshments follow the service.

Unity speaker

PORT ANGELES — Unity in the Olympics, 2917 E. Myrtle St., will hold a 10:30 a.m. service Sunday featuring Niobe Weaver, whose lesson will be “Spiritual Independence; Listening to the Guru in You.”

Child care is available during the service.

A brief time for silent meditation will be held from 10 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.

All are welcome to attend all church activities.

Beginning at 1 p.m. after the regular service, Weaver will bring her healing circle to the congregation, according to a news release.

Weaver will share messages from her guides in “Melodies of the Heart; a Sacred Time with Spirit.”

There is a suggested love offering of $10-$50.

‘Spirit of Service’

SEQUIM — “Spirit of Service” is the theme of the Vacation Bible School at Trinity United Methodist Church, 100 S. Blake Ave., from July 13-16.

During the free event from 9 a.m. to noon each day, participants will experience the biblical teaching of service to others.

Field trips will highlight the service of personnel at the city police department and fire station, as well as Sequim Food Bank and the Coast Guard installation in Port Angeles.

Anyone age 6 or older, including adults, may attend.

Space is limited, and pre-registration is required.

New pastor named

PORT ANGELES — Hillcrest Baptist Church, 2054 Black Diamond Road, has named Dr. William Gullick as its new pastor.

Gullick will be at the church for his first sermon Sunday.

Formerly from the Edgewood Baptist Church in Edmonds, Gullick served there as intentional interim pastor for two years.

His prior service was at Martha Lake First Baptist Church in Lynnwood.

Gullick has a Master of Divinity from the Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary in Memphis, Tenn., a Bachelor of Arts from Blue Mountain College in Mississippi and a Doctor of Ministry from Bakke Graduate School in Seattle.

He and his wife, Diane, have two children.

Worship services begin at 11 a.m. each Sunday.

Bible school

PORT ANGELES — The Cooperative Vacation Bible School of First United Methodist, First Presbyterian, Holy Trinity Lutheran and St. Andrew’s Episcopal churches will offer vacation Bible school at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 510 East Park Ave., from 9 a.m. to noon July 13-17.

The theme is “Spark Summer: Splash in God’s Word,” which covers five biblical stories involving water.

Vacation Bible school is for children 3 years old as of Jan. 1 through graduates of fifth grade.

The cost is $5, but scholarships are available.

David Herbelin, executive director of Olympic Theatre Arts, is stepping down from the role. He was diagnosed with colorectal cancer in spring 2022, and although he has survived various prognosis timelines, the disease has spread. Herbelin will stay on as a part-time consultant for a few months as OTA’s board of trustees seeks his replacement.
