Fair winds ablowin’ in Clallam for county fair [***GALLERY***]

PORT ANGELES — Lawn mower races and 4-H Western Games are the grandstand events at the Clallam County Fair today.

A logging show and the first day of a rodeo are planned Saturday in the grandstand, while the demolition derby will rev up Sunday.

The fair at the fairgrounds at 1608 W. 16th St., Port Angeles, opened Thursday with Kids Day and will continue through Sunday.

The theme is “Rock With the Stock.”

Gates open at 8:30 a.m. each day and close at 9 p.m. today and Saturday and at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Buildings will open at 10 a.m. each day, closing at 10 p.m. today and Saturday and at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The carnival opens at noon each day, closing at 10 p.m. today and Saturday and at 7 p.m. Sunday.

Daily fair admission is $8 for adults, $6 for students and senior citizens, and $5 for children age 6-12, with children 5 and younger admitted free.

Season passes are $24 for adults, $13 for seniors and students, and $12 for children 6-12.

In the grandstand

The 4-H Western Games will start at 9 a.m. today in the grandstand, while lawn mower races will be at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

On Saturday, the logging show will begin at noon, while a rodeo will start at 5 p.m.

On Sunday, the rodeo will begin at noon in the grandstand before a major highlight of the fair, the demolition derby, begins at 5 p.m.

Tickets to the derby are $11 — in addition to fair admission. Tickets sales will start at 9 a.m. Sunday outside the yellow gate.

Demonstrations

The Olympic Peninsula Fly Fishers will demonstrate fly-tying in the hobb­ies and crafts barn from noon to 6 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday.

In the dog arena, the 4-H Dog Drill Team will perform at 5:30 p.m. today, while the Emerald City K-9 free-style dancers will put on a show at 6 p.m.

On Saturday, Camp Fire USA will host a free craft station for children in the hobbies and crafts barn.

Other demonstration will run continuously throughout the fair in the art, agricultural and dog barns.

Animal judging

Animal judging of swine, cattle, horses, goats, poultry, dogs, cats, rabbits and sheep continues throughout the fair.

Animal shows are in barns and arenas throughout the weekend.

The Junior Livestock Auction will be Saturday starting at 3 p.m. in the sheep/swine arena.

Entertainment on the Wilder Auto Community Stage and Sunny Farms Center Stage is scheduled every day.

At least 28 vendors will sell a variety of food, ranging from Italian ice to cotton candy to hamburgers and meatloaf .
