EYE ON THE PENINSULA: Clallam continues discussion around mill closure

Meetings across Clallam and Jefferson counties

Clallam County’s response to the pending McKinley Mill closure, a presentation on neighborhood associations and school district budgets will be before boards and commissions on the North Olympic Peninsula next week.

Clallam County Commissioners

The three Clallam County commissioners will discuss Economic Development Council funding to continue the work of the Center for Sustainable Infrastructure and Roy Street Group in response to the upcoming McKinley Mill closure during their weekly work session Monday and weekly business meeting Tuesday.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which will start at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

• Award of a contract to Bruch and Bruch Construction for $1,117,623 to complete phase I of the Sekiu sewer main replacement project.

• A grant agreement with the state Department of Commerce for $35,000 to hire a consultant to update the county’s five-year homelessness plan.

• A request for proposals to identify a consultant to update the county’s five-year homelessness plan.

• A resolution to support Clallam County Hospital District No. 2’s levy lid lift proposition on the Aug. 6 primary ballot.

• An agreement with the state Military Department for $45,560 in pass-through funding for the PenCom dispatch center operated by the city of Port Angeles.

• An agreement with the state Military Department for $97,500 for continued support of Operation Stonegarden.

• An agreement with the state Department of Commerce for $150,000 for continued operation of the Olympic Peninsula Narcotic Enforcement Team.

• An agreement with the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs for $629,565 for field response services for people with mental health issues.

• A presentation regarding Health and Human Services’ Project SAFER (Special Assistance for Emergency Response).

• An agreement with the state Department of Commerce for $627,924 to address homelessness; funds are earmarked for local document recording fee support, $251,953, and consolidated homelessness grants funding for Serenity House, $375,971.

• A request from the Prosecuting Attorney to approve a proposed insignia for the Coroner’s Office and for amendment of County Policy 450 “Vehicle Use.”

• Renewal of an interlocal agreement with San Juan County to provide detention and hold services for juvenile offenders.

• A local agency agreement with the state Department of Transportation for a highway resurfacing project on Old Olympic Highway between Spring/Matson roads and Barr/Gunn roads.

• A request for bids for the Airport Road repaving project; bids must be received by 10 a.m. Aug. 13.

• A request for a 12-month extension of land division LDV2019-00016.

• An update on the Clallam County Poet Laureate program from Clair Dunlap.

• A discussion regarding next steps for the Kroger opioid settlement.

• A call for a public hearing at 10:30 a.m. July 30 regarding debatable budget emergencies as well as resolutions adopting various budget reductions, revisions and supplemental appropriations.
