Government meetings across North Olympic Peninsula

The boards of local government agencies will meet next week on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Clallam County

The three Clallam County commissioners will consider an agreement with Astound Broadband to develop broadband infrastructure along the state Highway 112 corridor from Lairds’ Corner to west of Joyce during their weekly business meeting Tuesday..

They also will consider resolutions regarding budget revisions and supplemental appropriations and conduct a public hearing regarding various debatable budget emergencies.

The commissioners’ work session, at 9 a.m. Monday, will preview items set for action at their formal meeting, which starts at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

Agenda items include:

• A recommendation from Public Works to award the Carlsborg Road paving contract to Lakeside Industries, Inc. for $900,315.

• An agreement with the Clallam Conservation District for $125,000 for renewable resource conservation planning and implementation.

• A weekly legislative update.

• A discussion regarding who will represent the county on the proposed Revenue Advisory Council.

• An agreement with Alexander Sidles, of Sidles Law, for hearing examiner services.

• A request for proposals to provide detailed channel migration zone delineation analysis of the Elwha River, to include Indian Creek and Little River, downstream of Olympic National Park; proposals are due by 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2.

• An agreement with Jefferson County to compensate Clallam County up to $10,000 for educational outreach activities through the Marine Resources Committee.

• An agreement with the state Department of Commerce for a $350,000 grant to update the county’s comprehensive plan.

• Agreements with the Federal Emergency Management Agency for $239,646 in funding for county road repairs related to storm damage in November 2021.

• A request from Hunter Gilliam for the county to vacate and unopened right-of-way on his property.

• An agreement with Hunt Engineering for $55,000 to provide design and engineering for the chiller replacement project in the Juvenile Detention Facility.

• An agreement with Straitside Ranch for a bovine grazing lease on Robin Hill Farm County Park.

• An introductory meeting with CAPT. Mark A. McDonnell, the commander of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound.

The commissioners also will consider a letter of support for the Quilcene Skate Park; conduct continued hearing regarding the shoreline master program; consider a letter of support for Habitat for Humanity of East Jefferson County for its Mason Street neighborhood affordable housing development in Port Hadlock; conduct a workshop regarding climate action goals; and conduct a public hearing regarding Big Quilcene and Little Quilcene rivers comprehensive flood management plan.

Items on the consent agenda include a memorandum of understanding with Public Health, Superior Court and District Court for $200,000 regarding therapeutic courts; the County Road Administration Board road levy certification; a letter notifying tribal chairs of the 2025 periodic update, an agreement with the state Department of Commerce for $50,000 for the 2024 middle housing grant; and an amended agreement with the Northwest Pacific Coast Marine Resources Committee for an $120,500.
