EYE ON JEFFERSON: Port Townsend to consider welcoming city resolution

The Port Townsend City Council will discuss a proposed resolution for declaring Port Townsend a welcoming city when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

A Civil Service Commission meeting is set for 3:15 p.m. Wednesday in the second-floor conference room at 250 Madison St.

County commissioners

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider a resolution establishing an 18-month work plan for the comprehensive plan period review when they meet Monday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

During the county administrator briefing session at 1:30 p.m., commissioner will hear an update on the Lower Duckabush River assessment and outreach project and be briefed on the financing and status of the Port Hadlock Wastewater System project.

Items on the consent agenda include:

• An agreement to purchase 2017 supply of liquid asphalt products from Albina Asphalt Inc. for $170,475. The supply is for the Jefferson County Public Works’ bituminous surface treatment program.

• A supplement agreement with the state Department of Transportation for $953,311 in construction funds for Phase 1 of the Rick Tollefson Memorial Trail.

• A loan amendment with the Public Works Trust Fund Board for the Port Hadlock Wastewater System project.

Port Townsend schools

The Port Townsend School Board will hear presentations on capital levy spending and on learning organizations and adaptive change when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the Gael Stuart Building, 1610 Blaine St.

The board also will discuss the name to be chosen for a new school that will replace Grant Street Elementary.

It has already decided to wait to choose a name until after it hears from the public at a forum set for 5 p.m. Feb. 27.

The top five names are Chetzemoka Elementary, Kah Tai Elementary, Salish Coast Elementary, Salish Sea Elementary and Salish Trails Elementary.

Jefferson PUD

Jefferson County Public Utility District commissioners will discuss telecom issues at a workshop Monday.

The workshop will be at noon at 230 Chimacum Road.

On the agenda are the PUD’s relationship with Northwest Open Access Network (NoaNet), the utility’s rates and charges, its role in the county as a wholesale telecom provider and possible goals and objectives.

No decisions will be made at the meeting.

PUD advisory board

The Jefferson County Public Utility District Citizen Advisory Board will receive PUD conservation program, subcommittee and 2015 audit updates when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 2:30 p.m. at 310 Four Corners Road, Port Townsend.

Jefferson Healthcare

Jefferson Healthcare commissioners will consider a purchase of real estate and an affiliation with Discovery Behavioral Health after hearing public comment when they meet Wednesday.

Commissioners will meet at 3:30 p.m. in the Victor J. Dirksen Conference Room on the first floor at 834 Sheridan St.

The real estate under consideration is at 1010 Sheridan St., the Watership Medical Building.

Commissioners also will hear reports from the chief medical officer, administrator and patient advocate; and on a resolution to the 2017 Hazard Mitigation Plan, as well as on finances.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue commissioners will approve general fire, EMS and payroll expenditure warrants when they meet Wednesday.

The meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. at Station 1-5, 35 Critter Lane, Port Townsend.

They also will consider a fire station garage and an annexation, as well as excuse the chairman from the Feb. 15 board meeting, mull a cost recovery program and hear a fire chief succession committee report.

Peninsula College

Peninsula College trustees will meet Tuesday.

They will meet at 2 p.m. in Cornaby Center on the Peninsula College Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Trustees will hear reports from Luke Robins, president, and discuss a mission study and tenure.

Quilcene schools

The Quilcene School Board will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Room 9 at 294715 U.S. Highway 101.

No agenda was available as of Saturday.
