EYE ON JEFFERSON: Howard Street corridor land-use rule before Port Townsend City Council — corrected

EDITOR’S NOTE: This report has been corrected to reflect that Jefferson Healthcare commissioners will meet Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at 2500 W. Sims Way, Suite 302, Port Townsend.

The Port Townsend City Council will conduct public hearings on interim land-use rules for the Howard Street corridor and on a Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program when it meets today.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The council will consider whether to extend, modify or terminate the land-use rules that will expire July 8.

It also will consider approving the transportation improvement program.

It will decide whether to ban bicycles from the stairs near Haller Fountain and from sidewalks on Sheridan Street between Seventh and 11th streets.

Also on the agenda is zoning for planned unit developments and awarding contracts for the Landes and Sheridan streets sidewalk project.

Council office hours, during which members of the public can discuss any topic with a member of the City Council, take place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the mayor’s office at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

Other city meetings are:

■ Library Advisory Board — 3 p.m. Tuesday, Library Learning Center/Charles Pink House, 1256 Lawrence St.

■ Historic Preservation Committee — 3 p.m. Wednesday, third-floor conference room, City Hall, 250 Madison St.

Jefferson County

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider real estate appraisal for property acquisitions when they meet today.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The water quality division of Jefferson County Public Health has asked to hire appraisal services in the amount of $6,800 in regard to property to be acquired for floodplain protection. Funding is through grants.

Commissioners also will consider a $2,950 community services grant to the Gardiner Community Center.

They are expected to proclaim the week of June 22 as Amateur Radio Week. Field Day is set June 27-28 at the Northwest Maritime Center.

Jefferson Healthcare

Jefferson Healthcare commissioners will hear the findings of the Reproductive Task Force when they meet Wednesday.

Commissioners will meet at 3:30 p.m. at 2500 W. Sims Way, Suite 302, Port Townsend.

The task force was created after the American Civil Liberties Union raised questions about the hospital’s policies on abortion.

Commissioners also will hear reports on finances, quality emergency preparedness and from the patient advocate.

Quilcene schools

The Quilcene School Board will discuss authorizing the superintendent to possibly cut classified staff for the next school year when it meets Wednesday.

The board will meet at 5 p.m. in Room 9 at 294715 U.S. Highway 101.

If staff were cut, it would be because of anticipated economic circumstances, the agenda says.

The board also will consider allowing the Quilcene Fair to be held on school grounds Sept. 19.

Board of Health

The Jefferson County Board of Health will conduct a public hearing on proposed revisions to the environmental health fee schedule when it meets Thursday.

The board will meet at 2:30 p.m. at the Jefferson County Public Health building, 615 Sheridan St., Port Townsend.

The proposed revisions reflect adjustments to services affected by an hourly rate adjustment, specifically administrative hearing fees, technical assistance/plan review fees, temporary permit fees, annual permit fees, miscellaneous fees, water, living environments and indoor air fees.
