EYE ON JEFFERSON: County commissioners to consider 2017 budget

The three Jefferson County commissioners will conduct a hearing on the proposed 2017 budget when they meet Monday.

The hearing is set for 10 a.m. after the meeting begins at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Adoption of the nearly $55 million budget is expected Dec. 12 at the earliest.

Items on the consent agenda include:

• Setting a hearing at 10 a.m. Dec. 19 on fourth-quarter budget appropriations and extensions.

• Accepting a $36,673 grant from the state Office of Public Defense to improve the quality of public defense services.

• An agreement with the state Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery for an additional $40,941 for a total of $214,500 for drug prevention programs.

Port Townsend City Council

The Port Townsend City Council will consider adopting a 2017 budget when it meets Monday.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The proposed budget would spend $40,156,754.

The council also will conduct a public hearing on whether to re-enact, extend, modify or terminate interim land use rules for the Howard Street corridor.

The council will consider a resolution reaffirming its commitment to human and civil rights.

It will consider a wage schedule that provides increases for non-represented employees.

Adoption of the final draft of the 2016 Jefferson County Solid Waste Management Plan is on the agenda, as well as authorization of the city manger to renew contracts with various groups such as the Port Townsend Main Street Program and adoption of a state legislative agenda.

A quorum of council members may attend an open house concerning the Navy Growler draft environmental impact statement at 3 p.m. Monday in the Fort Worden conference center at 200 Battery Way. No business will be conducted.

Other city committee meetings, which are in conference rooms at City Hall, 250 Madison St., are:

• Historic Preservation Committee — 3 p.m. Tuesday, third-floor conference room.

• Arts Commission — 3 p.m. Wednesday, first-floor conference room.

• Civil Service Commission — 3 p.m. Wednesday, second-floor conference room.

Jefferson Healthcare

Jefferson Healthcare commissioners will hear a presentation on health care and charity care when they meet Wednesday.

Commissioners will meet at 3:30 p.m. in the Jefferson Healthcare Conference Room, Suite 302, on the third floor at 2500 W. Sims Way.

Also on the agenda is consideration of a resolution concerning Human Rights Alliance North Sound, medical staff credentials and appointments, and surplus equipment

During an executive session, commissioners will evaluate CEO Mike Glenn and consider real estate.
