EYE ON JEFFERSON: County board mulls interim Department of Community Development directorship

The three Jefferson County commissioners will consider naming an interim director for the Department of Community Development on Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 9 a.m. in commissioners’ chambers at the Jefferson County Courthouse, 1820 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

The commissioners will consider a contract with David Goldsmith, who is expected to serve in the job for a few months until a permanent replacement for the retiring DCD director is found.

The contract would not exceed $32,100.

Smith is retiring Sept. 25.

The commissioners plan an executive session at 10 a.m. with outside legal counsel, a deputy prosecuting attorney, the county administrator, the director of the DCD and the treasurer concerning potential litigation.

A second executive session is set for 11 a.m. with a Washington Counties Risk Pool attorney, a deputy prosecuting attorney, the county administrator and sheriff concerning actual litigation.

During a briefing session at 1:30 p.m., commissioners will hear a report on noxious weed control.

Items on the consent agenda include:

â–  A resolution to designate surplus property and a list of equipment to be sold at auction at 10 a.m. Sept. 25 at the Jefferson County Shop at 371 Chimacum Road in Port Hadlock.

â–  A $36,000 professional services agreement for Jefferson County Public Health.

â–  Change order with North Shore Electric Inc. of Oalla for alarm replacement in the Jefferson County kail, raising the cost by $5,613.

â–  Change order with Bruch and Bruch Construction of Port Angeles for the Dowans Creek Road realignment, lowering cost by $6,825.

Port Townsend city

The Port Townsend Planning Commission will continue its discussion of comprehensive plan assessment at a meeting Thursday.

The meeting will be from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in council chambers at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

The City Council meeting originally scheduled for Tuesday has been canceled.

The city Arts Commission will discuss the 2016 budget during a workshop from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesday in the third-floor conference room at City Hall at 250 Madison St.

Council office hours, during which members of the public can discuss any topic with a member of the City Council, take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday in the mayor’s office at historic City Hall, 540 Water St.

Port of Port Townsend

Port of Port Townsend commissioners will consider authorizing a contract for expansion of the Boat Haven boat ramp when they meet Wednesday.

The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. in chambers, 333 Benedict St.

It will be preceded by a 9:30 a.m. workshop in the same location.

Commissioners will hear briefings from Team Jefferson and the county assessor as well as discuss the 2016 budget process at the morning workshop meeting.

The low bidder for boat ramp expansion was Neptune Marine Construction of Aberdeen, which bid $412,750.
