EYE ON CLALLAM: County commissioners to hold hearing Tuesday on marijuana law

The three Clallam County commissioners will conduct a public hearing on a proposed recreational marijuana law Tuesday.

The hearing will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

The proposed zoning ordinance would allow state-licensed marijuana growers, processors and retailers to operate in certain commercial and industrial zones but restrict them from rural neighborhoods.

The county Planning Commission recommended the ordinance by a 7-1 vote.

The regular business meeting will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The meeting will be highlighted by the presentation of the preliminary 2016 county budget.

Other agenda items include:

â–  An agreement with the state Administrative Office of the Courts funding a court facilitator position.

â–  A memorandum of understanding with the Army for the lower Dungeness River ecosystem restoration project.

â–  A contract amendment with Peninsula Behavioral Health adding funding for client transportation upon release from jail.

â–  An easement purchase for the Carlsborg sewer project.

â–  Bid openings for a courthouse retrofit and a pavement overlay for LaPush Road.

â–  A public hearing for the proposed vacation of portions of Sequim-Dungeness Way and 3 Crabs Road.

Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Tuesday for their weekly work session. The courthouse will be closed today for Labor Day.

Discussion items will include a request from the Sheriff’s Office to purchase and install security cameras throughout the jail.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will review a proposed economic development services agreement with the anticipated Composite Recycling Technology Center when it meets Tuesday.

The agreement will be presented for possible approval Sept. 22.

Commissioners also will review a draft capital improvement plan.

It also will discuss superintendent goals for 2015-16 and a draft board calendar for the school year.

Clallam Conservation District

The Clallam Conservation District will discuss a draft plan and procedures for the unanticipated discovery of cultural resources Tuesday.

The meeting will begin at 3 p.m. in Suite H of Armory Square, 228 W. First St., Port Angeles.
