EYE ON CLALLAM: County panel mulls salaries for elected officials

Clallam County commissioners will discuss a resolution establishing salaries and benefits for elected officials Monday.

The work session will begin at 9 a.m. in the commissioners’ boardroom (160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St., Port Angeles.

Other discussion items on the agenda include:

• Agreements with William Shore Memorial Pool District and Peninsula Behavioral Health for the Horizon Center property at 205 E. Fifth St. in Port Angeles.

• An Opportunity Fund request from the William Shore Memorial Pool District.

• An agreement with the state Department of Ecology to promote the use of a moderate risk waste facility.

• An agreement with Ecology for monitoring solid waste handling facilities.

• An assessor’s request for a full-time employee for appraisal staff.

• An agreement with the state Military Department to support Operation Stonegarden activities.

• A call for bid for a countywide guardrail project.

• A resolution authorizing action on climate change in Clallam County.

At 1 p.m. Monday, the board will hear an update on the draft Shoreline Master Program.

Commissioners will meet in the same room at 10 a.m. Tuesday to conduct their weekly business meeting.

Action items include:

• A contact amendment with Correctional Healthcare Companies, LLC for inmate health care services.

• An agreement with Kitsap County for joint participation in state Homeland Security program grants.

• An agreement with the state Department of Commerce to help sustain current drug task force operations.

• A resolution authorizing a grant application for construction of the lower Dungeness River floodplain levee setback project.

• A deed of easement with the state Department of Natural Resources to construct a new access road off Camp Hayden Road to the Striped Peak area for logging and public access.

• A public hearing will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for consideration of debatable budget emergencies.

Port of Port Angeles

Port of Port Angeles commissioners will consider issuing a call for bids for the Marine Trades Industrial Wash-Down Facility when they meet at 9 a.m. Monday.

The special meeting will be at the Port of Port Angeles building, 338 W. First St.

The facility’s cost is estimated at $1.5 million. The scheduled bid opening would be May 31, with staff recommending an award on June 12.

Commissioners also will consider a lease renewal with the Sequim Bay Yacht Club. In 2015, the club requested a two-year lease because of membership concerns.

Now that membership has increased, the club has agreed to a five-year lease.

Clallam PUD

Clallam County Public Utility District commissioners will consider awarding a $179,939 bid to Valmont Composite Structures for 32 fiberglass poles Monday.

The meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Lake Crescent boardroom at the PUD’s main office at 104 Hooker Road in Carlsborg.

District commissioners also will hold an executive session to evaluate the performance of a public employee.

Sequim City Council

The Sequim City Council will consider adopting a resolution regarding public ownership of John Wayne Marina when it meets at 5 p.m. Monday.

The council will meet at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

At the workshop preceding the 6 p.m. regular meeting, the council will consider adopting a resolution that says that it values John Wayne Marina as a public asset and that it is interested in receiving ownership of the marina or helping to develop the means for continuing public ownership of the marina.

It also will consider a commitment for 2019 park funding. The “Playground Shuffle” would install new equipment at Carrie Blake Park and repurpose existing equipment to Margaret Kirner Park and Dr. James Standard Park.

The council also will conduct a public hearing on on 2018 budget amendments.

It will hear a report on public records requests that says that estimated salary costs for responding to public records requests in 2017 were $19,452.

It also will consider amendments to City Council rules of procedure.

Forks City Council

The Forks City Council will conduct a public hearing on the shoreline management plan when it meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The council will meet at City hall, 500 E. Division St.

It also will consider rezoning property as recommended by the Forks Planning Commission and declaring some property surplus.

Quillayute School

The Quillayute School Board will consider approving the Insight School of Washington 2018-19 course catalog when it meets at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The board will meet at the library at the Forks High School, 261 Spartan Ave.

Crescent schools

The Crescent School Board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The board will meet at the library at the school at 50350 state Highway 112 in Joyce.
