PORT ANGELES — Labor Day weekend might mark the traditional end of summer for area youth, but it will be the beginning of fun for those who skateboard.
Final preparations are under way for the long-awaited Sept. 3 open house at the Port Angeles Skate Park at the northeast corner of Erickson Playfield at Fourth and Race streets.
“It’s something we’re happy to see. Even those of us who don’t skateboard,” said Nor’wester Rotary Club member Doc Reiss.
The final concrete pouring was finished Friday and the project is on schedule for its open house and grand opening on Saturday, Reiss said.
The event will start at 10 a.m. with music and vendors.
There will be a brief ceremony at 11 a.m. that will include a short speech by 24th District Rep. Jim Buck, R-Joyce, followed by a ribbon-cutting.
“Then we will allow the public in to tour the park,” said Nor’wester Rotary Club member Steve Zenovic.
“We’ll have music all day long and give the community and opportunity to see what was built out there.
“We want to encourage the community to come down to check it out, see what we’ve built. It’s kind of neat.”
