WASHINGTON — Pet-food giants Iams and Eukanuba have issued a voluntary recall of specific lots of its dry dog- and cat-food products because of possible salmonella contamination.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, these lots were distributed to retail outlets across the United States. Iams and Eukanuba are made by Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble.
Salmonella can sicken animals eating the products. There also is risk to humans who handle tainted pet foods, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the food or any surfaces exposed to the products.
According to Procter & Gamble the recall is a precautionary measure.
