ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFS: Square Dance set for Coyle on Sunday . . . and other items

COYLE — The Laurel B. Johnson Community Center, 923 Hazel Point Road, will host an outdoor square dance lead by John Hatton and his band from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

The free event is open to the general public, although a donation jar will be set out to help pay the band.

Hatton, of Michigan, taught a six-week guitar class at the community center in the winter months and is returning for several weeks this summer.

“John has assembled a square dance band including a caller from friends he has made over the years at Centrum’s Festival of American Fiddle Tunes workshop held in Port Townsend every July,” said Norm Johnson, event organizer.

“John has been a regular there for many years both as an instructor and a musical instrument and supplies vendor.”

The band will set up in the new picnic shelter and the dancing will be on the grass in front of it, Johnson said.

The Coyle Women’s club will provide complimentary refreshments for the dancers, the band and the onlookers, Johnson said.

The community center is located at the southern tip of the Toandos Peninsula and is operated by the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation District with help from area residents.
