ENTERTAINMENT BRIEFLY: Hip Hop for Hunger tonight . . . and other events coming up

Hip hop hits for hunger relief benefit

PORT ANGELES — Seven acts, from the Lost Angels to Scott Elkins to Zak Swift and DJ O.B. 1, are putting on Hip Hop for Hunger, a benefit show at the Metta Room tonight (Friday, Jan. 16).

Admission is $7 for the all-ages part starting at 7 p.m. — or patrons can bring $5 plus a can of food to get in.

At 10 p.m., DJ O.B. 1 will take over for tonight’s 21-and-up after-party, also at the Metta Room, 132 E. Front St.

For information, phone 360-797-1113 or see the Metta Room’s Facebook page.

Ensler play tickets

PORT TOWNSEND — Tickets are on sale now for Eve Ensler’s play “A Memory, a Monologue, a Rant and a Prayer,” to take the Wheeler Theater stage Fort Worden State Park on Feb. 13.

Heather Dudley Nollette directs this production, a benefit for Dove House of Port Townsend and part of the One Billion Rising Revolution campaign to raise awareness about the global issue of violence against women.

Tickets are $30 per person — or $20 each for groups of five — at Dove House, 1045 10th St. To order online, see http://dovehousejc.eventbrite.com.

Dove House provides confidential crisis intervention and advocacy services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault.

So “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer,” a play about the healing that can begin when people create a culture of support, is a fitting fundraiser.

“Theater is a great way for the truth to be told about domestic violence . . . We see its effects every day — and we see the healing, hope, and transformation that can happen when someone (man or woman) decides abuse does not have to be a way of life,” said Dove House executive director Beulah Kingsolver.

For more information about this production and Port Townsend Rising, the local chapter of One Billion Rising, contact Annalisa Barelli at 360-821-8897 or annalisabarelli@gmail.com.

‘Bach to Bluegrass’

SEQUIM — The Deka Piano Trio and the Powerhouse band will fill the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2781 Towne Road, with a sweep of music next Friday, Jan. 23.

The 7 p.m. concert is titled “Bach to Bluegrass,” as the Deka Piano Trio specializes in classical music while Powerhouse delivers the old-time string-band goods.

The Peninsula Friends of Music Performance are presenting this concert, with admission a suggested $10 donation. Students get in free, though.

For more details, contact Craig Buhler at 360-683-2277 or email Craig@CraigBuhler.com.

Fire recovery help

PORT ANGELES — Four rock bands plus DJ O.B. 1 will converge on the Metta Room, 132 E. Front St., for a benefit show open to all ages Friday, Jan. 23.

Inside Defiance, Estafets, Tee Pee Creeper and Trinity Ave will all play in this fundraiser for Static Illusion, the local band whose studio was recently destroyed in a fire.

Admission to the 6 p.m. show is $5; soft drinks will be available for everybody, while those 21 and older can order adult beverages from the bar.

Then, later in the evening, DJ O.B. 1 will dish up lights, sound and music for a 21-and-up after-hours party.

For details, phone the Metta Room at 360-797-1113 or visit the venue’s Facebook page.
