PORT TOWNSEND — Challengers Kenneth Collins and Anthony (Tony) F. De Leo were leading in the first count of primary election ballots in the race for a Jefferson County Public Utility District seat.
In races with three or more candidates, the Aug. 5 top-two primary election narrowed the Nov. 4 general election ballot to the two candidates who received the most votes.
With 2,626 ballots of the 7,483 issued having been counted in the race for the District 2 seat of the Jefferson County Public Utility District, Collins, 68, of Nordland, was leading with 1,181, or 44.7 percent of the vote
De Leo, 65, of Port Hadlock, was in second place with 787 votes, or 29.8 percent.
Incumbent Ken McMillen, 81, also of Port Hadlock, won 658 votes, or 24.9 percent.
