PORT TOWNSEND — East Jefferson Fire-Rescue personnel made quick work of knocking down a fire on Gene Street on Monday morning.
The fire in an outbuilding in the 60 block of the street was reported by the structure’s owner at 7:25 a.m., according to a news release.
There were no injuries, and responding East Jefferson Fire-Rescue firefighters knocked down the fire in about 15 minutes.
The owner reported the fire after looking out the window of his home, seeing smoke coming from the structure and then discovering flames coming from its floor in the area of a portable electric heater that had been left on.
The building was uninsured, and a new freezer and musical equipment were damaged in the fire.
Units from Naval Magazine Indian Island assisted East Jefferson Fire-Rescue firefighters in battling the fire. In total, 16 fire department personnel responded.
