OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST – Clallam rescue teams responded to a distress call Sunday night on the Dungeness River off Palo Alto Road after a boating vessel was reported overturned.
A woman was stranded and unable to swim ashore, but her male companion was able to hike back to safety and call for help.
The woman’s condition was not known late Sunday, though she is believed to be injured.
Rescue units dispatched to the area reported slow traveling conditions. Palo Alto Road is in east Clallam County.
Units include Clallam County Fire District No. 3 technical rescue team, Clallam County search and rescue, Coast Guard Group/Air Station Port Angeles and the Clallam County Sheriff’s Department.
The Port Angeles Coast Guard helicopter was dispatched to help rescue the woman.
