PORT ANGELES — The Clallam County Sheriff’s Office, Port Angeles Police Department, Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition and Washington Region 1 Target Zero Taskforce collected 258 pounds of unwanted, unused or expired medications on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
During the collection, the Healthy Youth Coalition also handed out locking bags for securing medications from children and pets.
The semi-annual collection, which is in its 12th year, is sponsored by the Drug Enforcement Agency.
To date, 7,634 tons of prescription medications have been has collected and destroyed, preventing them from falling into the wrong hands; being accidentally ingested by children and pets; and from being released into local watersheds.
