TACOMA —
A 23-year-old driver who lost control of her vehicle after she “flipped the bird” at another driver near Tacoma could face criminal reckless driving charges, the State Patrol said.
State Patrol spokesman Trooper Guy Gill said the accident sent the driver and two other women to the hospital with minor injuries.
The State Patrol gave this report:
Tthe woman was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus eastbound in the left lane of State Route 512 shortly before 1 p.m. Monday when she tried to move into the right lane.
The woman became angry when the driver of a 1997 Subaru Outback refused, or was unable, to yield to her.
“She got very agitated and she flipped the bird at the other driver,” said Gill.
“When she did that, she failed to maintain control of her vehicle. It came into contact with the Subaru.”
The two cars went off the roadway. The Subaru flipped over on the side of the road. The Taurus went into a ditch.
The driver of the Taurus, the 50-year-old driver of the Subaru and a passenger in the Subaru were treated for minor injuries, Gill said.
Gill said the driver of the Taurus “was sorry and knew it [what she had done] was silly.”
