PORT ANGELES — It wasn’t your typical house party. Then again, it isn’t your typical house. A week ago, it wasn’t there.
About 50 people gathered Sunday at 1209 E. Campbell Ave. for hamburgers, hugs and prayers outside Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County’s latest project — a “blitz built” house erected and nearly finished in a week by more than 60 contractors from Port Angeles and Sequim.
When the last finishing touches such as baseboards and closet doors are installed this week, it will become the home of Aimee Jacobs and her children, Claira, 6, and Duncan, 2.
Jacobs earned her way to the top of Habitat for Humanity’s waiting list by putting in about 160 hours helping to build similar homes for other people. She also worked on the house that would be hers.
“I hope because we showed how possible it was, other people will make other homes possible,” she said Sunday as well-wishers lined up for burgers grilled by Lonnie Linn of Angeles Millwork and Lumber.
Linn was one of the contractors, all members of the North Peninsula Building Association, who constructed the two-story, three-bedroom house.
Over the next year, Habitat for Humanity of Clallam County will build three more houses in a cluster development at the site.
