Documentary on Peninsula College Longhouse to screen Dec. 4 in Port Angeles

PORT ANGELES — A documentary about the Peninsula College Longhouse will be screened at the college’s Studium Generale program Thursday, Dec. 4.

The screening will begin at 12:35 p.m. in the Little Theater on the college’s Port Angeles campus at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd. and will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

The documentary, “House of Learning: The Spirit of the Peninsula College Longhouse,” tells the story leading up to the time seven years ago when the longhouse opened its doors.

House of Learning is the first longhouse in the nation to be built on a community college campus, an accomplishment in partnership with six tribes of the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas: Hoh, Quileute, Makah, Port Gamble S’Klallam, Jamestown S’Klallam and Lower Elwha Klallam.

The documentary, from Kokopele Productions NW, includes interviews with tribal elders, former Peninsula College President Tom Keegan, current Peninsula College President Luke Robins and others.
