Veteran Democratic Congressman Norm Dicks was holding a comfortable lead over his Republican challenger, Tacoma attorney Doug Cloud Tuesday night.
With 25 percent of the precincts reporting in the congressional district that stretches from Tacoma to Neah Bay, Dicks was leading with about 68 percent of the vote to Cloud’s 31 percent.
In Clallam County, Dicks had about 58 percent. Cloud had about 42 percent.
In Jefferson County, Dicks enjoyed a 72 percent vote, against Cloud’s 28 percent.
Dicks’ camp said it was pleased with the large margin.
“Norm is very happy with how tonight has gone,” said Tom Luce, Dicks’ district director.
The results showed that Dicks, first elected to Congress in 1976, has had a lot of good issues and has been working on projects in 6th District, especially Clallam County, Luce said.
Cloud, speaking from his Gig Harbor home, said it was a good first attempt.
The challenger was gracious in defeat but indicated he might try again in two years.
