Decision on off-road site put off until 2007

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners will not vote on a proposal to establish an off-highway vehicle site until after the first of the year.

Beckwith Consulting Group based in La Conner, which is conducting a study on the feasibility of the area has requested more time to process public comments,

That means Commissioner Pat Rodgers, R-Brinnon, will not vote on the issue because he’s vacating his District 3 seat at the end of this year.

The two potential sites for an off-highway vehicle site for East Jefferson County are both around Quilcene, which is in District 3.

John Austin, D-Port Ludlow, is taking over Rodgers’ seat in January, and will join the other two commissioners, David Sullivan, D-Cape George, and Phil Johnson, D-Port Townsend.

The vote was originally scheduled Dec. 18, but will not take place until at least Feb. 19, said county Administrator John Fischbach.

That’s when the Jefferson County Parks and Recreation Advisory Board will give its recommendation to the commissioners after assessing the feasibility study.

Rodgers said he is disappointed he won’t vote on the issue.

“It’s in my district, and I think I’m in-tune with the people here,” said Rodgers.

Rodgers would not say how he would have voted.
