Deadline nears to sign up for Pink Up Port Angeles golf tournament

PORT ANGELES — The deadline is Wednesday for registration for the Pink Up Port Angeles golf tournament Friday.

Soroptimist International of Port Angeles, Noon Club members began the Pink Up Port Angeles fundraiser last week, tying pink ribbons all over downtown, a bake sale at Swain’s General Store and a Mobile Breast Health Clinic.

The golf tournament that will begin at noon Friday at the Peninsula Golf Club, 824 S. Lindberg Road, costs $100 per player and $400 for a foursome. The entry fee includes a reception set for 5 p.m.

For more information, or to register, contact Lori Oakes at 360-460-5313.

Prizes will include a hole-in-one prize on the 17th hole of a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado donated by the Mac Ruddell Community Fund through Ruddell Auto Mall. A 50-50 drawing also is planned.

The drawing for a handmade quilt, the prize for the Pink Up raffle, will be at the golfers reception. Tickets are $5 each or $10 for three tickets.

Proceeds from the annual fundraiser will go to Operation Uplift, a nonprofit organization that supports cancer patients on the North Olympic Peninsula. Last year, the week-long fundraiser drew $12,506 in donations.

Since 2005, the group has raised more than $312,000, said Wendy Shea, Soroptimist member. All money has gone to Operation Uplift.

“It all stays local for people battling all kinds of cancer,” Shea said.

Operation Uplift, a volunteer organization founded in 1983, provides wigs, turbans, scarves, prostheses, gas cards, financial support, a 24/7 help line and other services to cancer patients on the Peninsula.

The group started 34 years ago to support breast cancer survivors but now supports survivors of all types of cancer.
