The United Way of Clallam County has put out a call for volunteers for community service projects on the Day of Caring on Saturday.
Projects in Port Angeles and Sequim will range from yard work and landscaping to painting homes, repairs and cleanup.
Volunteers will be at work from 9 a.m. to about 1 p.m.
Projects in Forks and Clallam Bay will be scheduled for a later date.
The Day of Caring will kick off the United Way’s annual fund drive.
The drive, set from September through December, has a goal of $1 million.
In 2014, United Way raised $881,418, which has been distributed to 26 partner nonprofits and to United Way initiatives such as Great Beginnings and other services.
Companies, faith groups and service clubs are gathering a corps of volunteers and adopting projects.
Other community members and especially families are welcome to join in on any project, said Jody Moss, United Way executive director.
“Volunteering — whether it is reading to children, mentoring teens, serving meals to the hungry or helping connect homeless individuals and veterans to services — is one way to make a real difference in our communities,” said Lisa Meyer, vice president and branch manager of U.S. Bank in Port Angeles and the 2014 campaign chairwoman.
Projects planned so far in Port Angeles are:
■ First Step Family Support Center — Cleaning inside and out.
■ Serenity House’s Maloney Heights — Assembling raised bed planters.
■ Peninsula Behavioral Health Horizon House — Landscaping, painting and installing cabinets.
■ Parent Line — Hanging an exterior door (only a few volunteers from Kiwanis Club are needed).
■ Francis Street Park — Cleanup.
■ Salvation Army — Painting main room.
■ Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula, Port Angeles unit — Painting, cleaning, installing coving — or moulding — at the new teen center.
■ Olympic Community Action Programs — Painting porch railings at Hamilton Head Start.
■ Dream Playground — Cleanup, repair and painting.
■ Mosaic — Mosaic participants and families will finish a project cleaning at a cemetery.
Projects in Sequim include:
■ Sequim unit of Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula — Painting library, sorting, coding and ordering books. Twenty volunteers needed.
■ Sequim Food Bank — Painting exterior trim, painting around new windows, doorways scraped, primed and painted.
■ Parenting Matters Foundation — Volunteering with elder outreach project making flowers to be delivered to elders.
■ Sequim Water Reuse Site — Remove kinnikinnick and replace with mulch.
■ Gerhardt Park — Various projects, which may be held on a different date.
■ Dungeness Valley Lutheran Church — Church members are volunteering at various projects throughout the community, including card making, Habitat for Humanity, Boys & Girls Clubs, food bank and others.
West End projects will include painting, landscaping and fence repair by the Concerned Citizens in Forks and a beach cleanup in Clallam Bay-Sekiu.
