In case you’ve recently received a ticket from a Washington State Patrol trooper, take heart in that you received it from one dapper traffic officer.

The Washington State Patrol has been named as the best-dressed law enforcement agency in the United States for 2008, but this year shares a first-place tie with the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

The distinction comes from the National Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors, which has been held its “Best-Dressed Law Enforcement” contest for more than 30 years.

The Washington State Patrol also took first place for the 2007 awards.

“I am very proud of the men and women who wear the uniform of the Washington State Patrol,” State Patrol Chief John R. Batiste said in a news release. “I have seen the uniform of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, and am honored to be in their company.”

The awards mark the first time two agencies have tied for first place.
